Enroll a Child

Parent/Guardian Pre-Inquiry Checklist

Big Brothers Big Sisters staff is mindful of the time and energy it takes for volunteers, parents, and children to complete the enrollment process.  We are committed to ensuring best fit as well as supporting the well-being of all parties, and safety is our number one priority within matches. The following list is a snapshot of some qualities and qualifications that encourage success and a good fit in our program. Please go through the list and determine if you and your child would like to set up an in person interview and go through the enrollment process.
  • My child is between the ages of 6 and 14.
  • My child wants a Big Brother/Big Sister.
  • An adult volunteer would enjoy spending time with my child.
  • I am comfortable with my child being away from me for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • My child tends to self-care routines such as toileting, dressing, feeding, etc. without assistance.
  • My child accepts direction from adults regarding safety instructions (i.e., wearing a seat belt; not running  away; keeping hands to self, etc.).
  • I can manage my child’s behavior most of the time.
  • I am easily accessible by telephone for monthly phone calls.
  • I am willing to wait as long as it takes for the agency to find the best fit for my child.
  • I have talked to my child about getting a Big Brother/Big Sister.
  • My child is excited about getting a Big Brother/Big Sister.

Enroll A Child

We also recommended that children who are eligible for/participating in CBRS, Behavioral Intervention, or Habilitative Intervention services participate for at least one year prior to being matched with an adult volunteer through Big Brothers Big Sisters to ensure best fit for our volunteers. If you have any specific questions, or would like more information about enrolling, please call us at 208-377-2552.

It’s a big step for your little one. But we assure you it’s the right one. By enrolling your child with Big Brothers Big Sisters, you give them a chance to see their unlimited potential and develop into even more responsible, successful, well-rounded individuals.
