Virtual rocking chair event raised a record breaking $273,531.39
MERIDIAN, Idaho — Scentsy’s Virtual Rock-A-Thon will completely pay off Big Brothers Big Sisters office building. Due to the ongoing public health crisis, Scentsy changed their yearly in-person rocking fundraiser to an online and social media event. The virtual event is took place Friday, Sept. 18, to raise funds and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Southwest Idaho. Despite the pandemic, the event raised a record breaking $273,531.39. BBBS faced some monumental challenges this year. This includes reimagining their annual gala and cancelling their largest annual fundraiser. The funds donated by Scentsy will completely pay off BBBS’ office building - a building which is a hub for the families, Littles and Bigs in their program. This is where they conduct interviews and match meetings, host trainings and recruitment events, talk with parents while their children occupy themselves with activities in the play space. Also, the administration and oversight of all “matches” happens at this building. Additionally, this contribution will allow BBBS to divert future mortgage payments into serving more children and families. “At Scentsy, we’re a family, and we work hard to support families in our community.” said Heidi Thompson, Scentsy’s Co-CEO. “We believe happy, healthy families build vibrant communities. We believe in the work of the Big Brothers Big Sisters and support their mission of creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We are so excited about this partnership and helping build a bright future for littles.” The yearly Rock-a-Thon is one part of Scentsy’s generosity platform and summer giving efforts. Employees spent several weeks donating and stockpiling thousands of school supply items for the “littles” of the BBBS program. Scentsy donated $210,000 for the Rock-a-Thon and challenged the community to donate additional money for BBBS for a goal of $40,000, which the community far surpassed. “We know there is work to be done in our community and we are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to defending the potential of every child here in the Treasure Valley,” says CEO Emily Johnson. “Owning our building communicates a sense of stability to our families and volunteers as we take our program to the next level. We are so thankful to the Scentsy family for making this possible and helping us connect children with their new best friend – the person that will change their life!” This event was Scentsy’s seventh Rock-a-Thon. For more information visit www.ScentsyRockathon.com. Every year, Scentsy selects a non-profit to be the beneficiary for their annual Rock-A-Thon.
We are so honored and thrilled to be this year's beneficiary! For the last 6 years, thousands of people have rocked for a cause and Scentsy's contribution has impacted six different non-profits. This year it is time to Rock for Kids' Sake benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters! The funds raised through rocking will go towards paying off Big Brothers Big Sisters' office building - a BIG step towards ensuring sustainability for BBBS. Ultimately, making sure that every kid that wants a mentor will get one! Any funds that exceed our building payment will go directly towards our one-to-one mentorship program. 5 weeks ago we had a crazy idea... what if we turned our dinner gala, Magical Moments, into a virtual extravaganza? Would people listen to our stories? Will we be able to truly share the power of mentoring relationships over a live feed?
Last night, you told us the answer. Together, last night raised over $80,000 for the youth in our community. Additionally, our sponsors contributed another $60,000 for a total of $140,000. We are in awe of your thoughtfulness and generosity... and your creativity too (you guys had some amazing watch parties)! It's hard to find the right words to express the joy we feel. All we can say is, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. CLICK HERE TO RE-LIVE THE EVENT Keep your eyes on your inbox and social feeds, the event gallery is going to be amazing! The prospect of cancelling our SOLD OUT annual gala and fundraiser was too much for us - so we made the decision to take it to the internet for everyone to enjoy! This year, everyone will get a seat!

We are heartbroken over the death of George Floyd and the pain, anger and violence his death has sparked in so many communities across the country. The staff and board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho is committed to creating relationships that celebrate our diversity and grow our connectedness. We are dedicated to working with others to build communities where everyone feels welcome, safe and included. We seek to peacefully remove obstacles for all young people by connecting them with a mentor who will be their cheerleader, friend, and defender. This work seems especially important for our children of color who too often are the victims of racism. If you feel called to act, we invite you to join us because, together, we are defenders of potential.
